 Ongoing Classes with Rabbi Gross

  • Bagel Academy Torah-Study Breakfast - Saturdays at 9 a.m.We always precede Shabbat worship with an in-depth exploration of the passage of the weekly Torah portion. Each discussion is self-contained; attend weekly or as your schedule permits.  New or periodic participants are always welcome. Everyone attending may choose to review ahead of time the excerpt under discussion from the weekly parashah (listed in the monthly Light, weekly Flickers, or on the Shabbat page of our web site: www.templebethorr.org/worship/shabbat/).
  • Brown-Bag Torah Study Lunch -Tuesdays at Noon
    You're taking an hour for lunch anyway, so why not pack a sandwich and discuss Torah with Rabbi and friends in this informal setting. Let’s chew our way through the Five Books together.
  • "M&M" Mishnah and Morals - one Sunday a month at 11 a.m.
    The Sea of Talmud has receded for this year and our Talmud class is the new M&M's: Mishnah and Morals program meeting with Rabbi Gross one sunday a month from 11:00am to Noon (with the exception of Nov. and March) according to the schedule below.Sept. 19th, Oct. 24th, Dec. 5th, Jan. 23rd, Feb. 13th, April 17th and June 15th.

Melton  

Florence Melton Adult Mini-School, an internationally acclaimed adult Jewish education program, affiliated with Hebrew University, will be offering day and evening classes this fall at Temple Beth Orr.

Melton, as the program is affectionately called by its students, offers a dynamic curriculum which brings to life Judaism's rich heritage. This comprehensive course of Jewish literacy utilizes a text-based curriculum built on big ideas in the areas of Jewish holidays, life-cycle, Jewish thought, ethics, and history. All of the Melton classes are taught by master faculty members who encourage students of all ages to explore, experience, and define what Judaism means to them. There are no prerequisites, grades, or exams.The

Classes begin during the first week of October and will be offered on Wednesdays from 9:30 - 11:45 a.m. as well as on Wednesday evenings from 7:15 - 9:45 p.m. Topics in the Melton curriculum being studied this year are Ethics of Jewish Living and Dramas of Jewish Living (history).

In addition, for those students who have already completed the Melton Two Year program, Orloff CAJE is pleased to offer two graduate courses in the MidrashaPlus Program. Courses offered this year are An Overview of the Prophets with Master Instructor Sandra Lilienthal as well as The Historical Jesus and the Rise of Early Christianity with master instructor Arnold Bergman.
