Temple Beth Orr Kuhn Early Childhood Center is an amazing place for young children to grow and thrive!
Mission Statement
Kuhn Early Childhood Center provides a developmentally appropriate program within a secure and nurturing environment for children ages three months through five years. Working closely with parents, we try to instill a sense of confidence, a love of learning and a commitment to Jewish values. We welcome families of all religious and ethnic backgrounds.Temple Beth Orr is a unique learning environment for young children to learn and thrive!
Curriculum
We use the Creative Curriculum which is a curriculum based on the child’s social-emotional, cognitive and physical needs. The children are encouraged to make decisions independently, problem solve and have input as to his/her days choices. Our children are encouraged to experience learning through doing as opposed to being told what to do and when to do it.
Grandparent's Day
Recipient of the Maurice and Bernice Goldstein Award
Judy Ross is this year’s recipient of the prestigious Grinspoon Steinhardt / Maurice Goldstein Early Childhood Education Teacher of the Year Award. Mrs. Ross joins three other staff members who have also won this special award. Judy is a Temple member and twenty-year Kuhn E.C.C. instructor. This prestigious award was established and endowed by our own Maurice "Moish" and Bunny Goldstein to recognize and reward those who sculpt the souls of our youngest children.
Staff
Our staff is made up of well-trained degreed teachers and assistants who have a strong commitment to early childhood education excellence. Every staff member has at least a Child Development Associate Certificate. The majority of our staff also has an Associate, Bachelors or even a Masters’ degrees in early childhood education.
Programs
At Temple Beth ORR ECC, we have three and five day programs (full and part-time). We offer extended hours from 7:00 -6:00 daily.
Parental Involvement
Parents are encouraged to become involved in our school. We have an open door policy and welcome visitors. We are very proud of what we do in our school and therefore love to show off what we do. We have an active Parent Teacher Organization who raises money to augment our programs and equipment. The PTO meets monthly to discuss school activities and to develop social bonds with other school parents. Mom’s Night Out several times throughout the year including Mrs. Kaplan helps to socially unite our Moms.
Enrichments
The Kuhn ECC offers many enrichment programs after school for the full and part-time students. These programs have included karate, books and cooks, science, yoga, phonics, handwriting skills, dance and more.
Snack Program
We offer snacks twice daily. Our parents work with us to provide a variety of healthy snack options for our children.
Sick Policy
In order to prevent a spread of illness, our school adheres to a consistent sick policy outlined in our school handbook. The wellness of our young children is very important to us.
Infant/Creepers ( 3months-15months)
Our babies are cuddled, loved, talked to and enjoyed. We expose them to language, stories, tummy time, pre-walking skills and music.
We work to develop a trusting relationship between home and school. Our staff will follow the child’s daily schedule and our goal is to keep our little ones content and happy.
Twos ( 2 years by September 1)
This program focuses on the development of language and social skills. We use a hands on approach to learning by exposing the children to math, science, music, literacy and sensory activities. Our children learn by observing, feeling, smelling and tasting.
Threes ( 3 years by September 1)
This program is based on an emergent child-centered curriculum rich in science, math, dramatic play, music, art, and language. The children learn through a multi-sensory hands on approach to learning. Our staff is trained in the Positive Behavior Support Program which encourages children to acknowledge their feelings and to problem solve.
• Pre-Kindergarten ( 4 years by September 1)
Our Pre Kindergarten program enables the staff to develop emergent reading and writing skills.
The children will have daily journal writing, math, science, literature, Spanish, music, language skills and social studies. The children will develop knowledge of the Judaic world through stories, torah talk, music and weekly Shabbat with Rabbi Gross.
Our Educational Director
Eileen Kaplan is our ECC Educational Director. She has over 20 years of experience in Early Childhood Education. Her educational background in Speech Pathology with a Master’s Degree in Administration has allowed her to build a program rich in language skills and phonemic awareness. Mrs. Kaplan takes pride in knowing each and every child, their diverse personalities, and their individual educational needs. She loves to delve into all things educational and is always reading the latest materials, attending workshops, and implementing new and innovative curriculum at the school. It is quite normal to see Mrs. Kaplan in the classroom sitting and observing the children. They in turn, take comfort in seeing her smiling face, and they love to chat with her and spoil her with hugs. Her passion about education pairs well with her natural ability to care for each and every child, which brings feelings of self-confidence to both the children and the adults at the Kuhn ECC.
“We will do everything possible to make children feel successful in our school,” Mrs. Kaplan says, and she accomplishes this with the perfect mixture of knowledge and love.
Eileen Kaplan is also the President of the Jewish Early Childhood Professionals (JECP) of Broward County. As such, she leads a group of 22 other professionals at our monthly meetings where issues are raised as they pertain to the early childhood arena. Eileen serves as a role model for the other educators in the group, many times offering advice on handling a variety of situations that involve one or several other professional educators. She is an outspoken advocate for early childhood education in general and for teachers, specifically. We are lucky to call her our Educational Director for Temple Beth Orr's E.C.C.
Accreditation
Our program is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. An NAEYC school guarantees quality in all early childhood domains. We also are a Broward County 5+ Star program. This is the highest level of performance a school may attain. Our school has a Gold Seal of Excellence awarded by the Broward County Board of Commissioners for over fifteen years.
