WE RESPOND TO GOD DAILY through public and private prayer, through study, and through the performance of other מצות mitzvot (sacred obligations)-- בין אדם למקום bein adam la-makom(to God) and בין אדם לחברו bein adam l’chaveiro (to other human beings). - Principles of Reform Judaism, 1999
Jewish spirituality, like everything else in Jewish life, is a shared experience. That is why the synagogue, as the home address of a circle of faith, has been the central organizing agency of the Jewish community for more than 2500 years, remaining today unique among the numerous dynamic organizations of Jewish life precisely because it is first and foremost a religious institution. Temple Beth Orr, our "house of light" is a luminous beacon of faith, summoning and inspiring and inviting. Our weekly celebration of Shabbat is an affirmation of God's spirit in our lives, and our observance of the once-a-year holidays constitutes both an ongoing alignment with the drama of Jewish history and a continuing ratification of our Covenant of faith-- even as Samson Raphael Hirsch teaches, "the Jews' catechism is our calendar."
