Since the Torah forbids making of fire on Sabbath, lighting candles late on Friday afternoon constitutes our last creative act of the week, signaling our relinquishment of control over the world.
Traditionally Shabbat candles are lit no less than 18 minutes before sundown on Friday, and the Havdalah candle is kindled at least 42 minutes after sundown on Saturday— both of which are variable times, based on location and season.
Shabbat Candle-Lighting Times in Coral Springs this weekend: Friday candle lighting time is 7:21pm Saturday Havdalah time is 8:13pm
=============================
The Torah scroll is read once through each year, with a sequential portion assigned to each week in turn. The stipulated excerpt from the weekly portion will be examined at the "Bagel Academy" study breakfast this Saturday morning, and read at the service which follows.

10 Minutes of Torah
You choose the time to study and the Union’s Department of Lifelong Jewish Learning will provide the resources. The Union will send you a one-page e-mail each day on a topic of Jewish interest. All you need to do is find 10 minutes a day to “do Torah.” NOTE THAT "10 MINUTES OF TORAH" is now counted towards the 100 hours of continuing study qualifying you for the URJ "Keva" certificate!

Shabbat Morning Worship
10:00 a.m.every Saturday Morning
Shabbat Shachrit worship and Torah service is conducted every Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. On most Saturday mornings, when one or more young persons are called to the Torah as Bar- or Bat-Mitzvah, we celebrate in the Sanctuary; on other occasions, when a smaller congregation of worshippers is expected, our service is held in the more intimate setting of the Harold J. Share Memorial Chapel.
We always precede Saturday morning worship with our "Bagel Academy" Torah-Study Breakfast at 9:00, attendance at which counts towards the requirement for the URJ Lifelong Learning Keva Certificate. New participants are always welcome, and everyone coming is encouraged to review ahead of time the excerpt from this week's parashah under discussion (specifications for which are available in the monthly Light or on the home page of this web site).
Other Holiday Services
We celebrate every sacred occasion throughout the Jewish year biz'mano (on their proper date), with a variety of service formats: sometimes on the eve of the holiday, sometimes on the day itself, and sometimes both. For details on any planned holiday observance, and service times and details, see the Holidays page of this web site or call the Temple Office 954-753-3232
