Jewish learning doesn’t end with Bar or Bat Mitzvah!
The teen years are crucial for staying involved in Jewish life, and
exploring issues of personal identity, values, religious awareness, and community.
For 8th-12th graders, TBO offers a madrichim, or teacher’s aide, program, where students learn leadership skills as they assist teachers in the K-7th grade religious school, and become mentors to younger children. The program is run by our Youth Director and aims to foster leadership among our youth and create a cohesive peer support group. For more information on this program, please contact Ron Barhai, at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling (954) 753-3232
8th-12th Grade Kesher and Confirmation Programs
Temple Beth Orr also encourages all 8th-12th graders to participate in TBO’s Kesher program. We appreciate the busy lives of our teens and therefore encourage them to participate in this program only as much as they can, and in whatever capacity fits their lives.TBO has designed its own educational program for these students which allows the students to collaborate with the Rabbi to create the year’s curriculum. This enables us to ensure that the students are learning about and discussing important Jewish topics that are of interest to them. Information and registration materials are available from the office by calling (954) 753-3232. TBO’s 10th Graders will have a one-on-one Confirmation Class with our Rabbi, culminating in their meaningful Confirmation Ceremony and Confirmation class trip.
Senior Youth Group (9th-12th Grades) – BOATY
The Beth Orr Association of Temple Youth (BOATY) is Temple Beth Orr’s Senior Youth Group for students in 9th-12th Grades. BOATY is run entirely by its teen membership with the guidance of a Youth Advisor. BOATY offers countless opportunities for leadership, team building, community service, fundraising, travel and adventure! Weekly meetings take place on Wednesdays from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm. Additional trips and service projects take place at least once a month.BOATY is part of the North American Federation of Temple Youth – Southern Tropical Region (NFTY-STR). Four times a year Reform Jewish Teens who are part of NFTY-STR gather from all over Florida to attend leadership conventions (known as Kallot) at host congregations. For more information on BOATY or NFTY, contact Ron Barhai, at email@example.com. Check out this video from NFTY-STR’s Winter Kallah this past December in Orlando! Cara Steinberg, one of our BOATY alumni members and previous Communications Vice President of NFTY-STR put together this amazing slideshow!
Every child and teenager, regardless of temple membership or religious school enrollment, is invited to participate in our TBO youth groups! If you have any questions, please contact our Youth Director, Ron Barhai, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
